Punjab Government incentive for electric bike conversion

Government Aims to Cut Carbon Emissions by 8,000 Tons Annually; Free Plants & Air Quality Monitoring Also Part of Green Initiative

The Punjab Government has announced financial incentives under the Chief Minister Green Credit Program to encourage the conversion from petrol to electric motorcycles. In this program, eligible individuals can receive up to ₹ 1 lakh to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable transportation.

According to the head of the program, Rizwana Anjum, the people who are buying an electric motorcycle and registered on the web portal Punjab Green Credit Program can get up to Rs. 1 Lakh. She also said that in this current fiscal year, the government is planning to convert 2000 petrol motorcycles and 250 other cars to electric vehicles, which will reduce 8000 tons of carbon emissions per year.

This program includes 35 citizen actions, which include daily activities that can promote environmental sustainability. Rizwana Anjum said that by 2030, according to Pakistan International Climate Commitments, it is necessary to convert 30% of the transport sector to sustainable transportation. That’s why citizens using petrol motorcycles are given incentives to convert to electric bikes.

For registration, citizens have to submit the date of buying an electric vehicle, the company and model, registration number, chassis number, a copy of the registration book, and a picture of the vehicle. After confirmation, the applicant will be paid an initial payment of Rs. 50,000. However, after converting the bike to the mobile application of Green Credit Mobile Application and after covering a 6000 km journey within six months of registration, another Rs. 50,000 will be paid.

Punjab APA officials have also clarified that the citizens converting old petrol bikes to electric motors or batteries will not be eligible for this program. Only those citizens who buy new electric motorcycles and register them under this program will be eligible for these financial incentives.

Besides this, the Punjab Government has also set the target to plant 300 trees in Lahore; however, every tree will be monitored through Australian technology. According to the metrological department, more than 200 green areas will be promoted in Lahore, and 65 traffic points will also be in focus.

According to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision, efforts are made to promote greenery in Punjab through the “Plant for Pakistan” campaign. The citizens of Lahore can get a free plant by calling 1399.

The government has also installed seven air quality monitoring stations to improve the air quality of Lahore.
Citizens can earn credit through planting trees, using LED lights, and other environmentally friendly activities by registering on the Chief Minister Green Credit Program. According to the government, these steps not only improve the environment but they will also provide financial benefits to the citizens.
